Bio:

Chelsea Miro was born in Detroit, Michigan. She attended Cranbrook Schools for pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. Cranbrook, through a deep commitment to the arts and academics, allowed Miro to grow up in a learning environment that fostered creativity while supporting intellectual growth.

From Cranbrook, Miro pursued a Bachelors degree from Brown University, in Providence, Rhode Island. As an undergrad, her concentration in American Civilization, with a focus on the history of American social movements, continued to fuel her sense of curiosity and passion for learning.  A recurring theme in her studies was education. From a study of the role of the Mississippi Freedom Schools in the Civil Rights Movement to child development and education classes, Miro was drawn to both the pedagogy and practice of early education.

At the end of her undergraduate career, Chelsea was accepted in Brown's Masters in Teaching program with a focus in Elementary Education. In addition to in-depth course work focused on educational policy and philosophy as well as practicums in teaching across all academic disciplines, Chelsea completed three diverse student teaching placements including: a 4/5 combined classroom summer program, 3rd grade at an innovative public charter school working with underserved students and, 5th grade at a prestigious and dedicated Independent school.

With love, empathy, joy and excitement, Miro set-up her first classroom, in Santa Barbara, California, at an independent K-12 school called Laguna Blanca. Chelsea took on the role as third grade teacher, in a program with just one class per grade level. There she independently designed a balanced curriculum that pulled from both traditional and progressive models. The curriculum she designed was based on research about best practice in elementary classrooms and centered around unique units designed to develop enthusiasm and joy in the classroom.  The resulting program was rich, thoughtful and creative and gained positive praise from parents, faculty and most importantly students. Chelsea was honored as the Lower School recipient of the Faculty Excellence Award in her first year as a teacher.

Chelsea decided to step away from the classroom in order to focus on one-on-one education. She now develops creative programs for individual students from elementary through high school, covering all subjects.

Miro currently lives in Santa Barbara, California, with her husband, Caleb, and their two dogs, Figgy and Morris.
